Thinking of building a 20 gallon water tank. Can you build one out of wood/fiberglass or would the resin contaminate the water? Seems like it would, but I thought I'd throw it out there. The other options of paying for a fabricated one out of HDPE or SS are expensive.
Any thoughts?

Can you really build one for less?
Did you check out Ronco? I would think by the time you added up all the materials it would come out near the same price as a plastic tank.

tanks
Thanks Rich, I did check out Ronco and you're right of course. I may go that route if I can find the correct size and shape. I just want to may a shorter version of the 30 gal tank that is under one of the settees. I have 130 gallon water supply right now. I would like to move a couple of the batteries that are in the starboard cockpit locker up towards the front of the boat. I figure I can afford to lose about 7 gals of water capacity (that's what I figure I'd lose with a slightly shorter tank) and the batteries would fit just fine there.

water tanks
Pat,
On the new boat the water tanks are built up against the hull with the wood glassed over with two layers of mat. The rest of the tanks are built out of wood and then glassed. NO problem with taste. Also when looking thru the large inspection ports all you see is the fir planking- kind of nice.
