Well, the details are finally coming together. On Friday I should be the new owner of a CD33 Hull #65. I'll be having the boat shipped from Maine back to Minnesota - yes the ice does melt from the lakes for a few days each summer.
Does anyone have experience with Marine Transport Inc out of Au Gres MI?? They seem ok by phone and are one of the cheaper quotes.
Also - I have a short list for prepping the boat (wrap mast, protect outside teak, secure everything below….). Does anyone have a list they have compiled for prepping a boat for land shipping, or just ideas of what I should/shouldn't do?
Thanks!!!

Re: Boat Transport
No list, no help, but congratulations. As a fellow Minnesota CD sailor, I feel it's important to set the record straight. We do have good sailing here in the midwest, albeit a short season. I just launched yesterday on the scenic St. Croix.

Re: Boat Transport
Rick,
I just had our CD36 transported from OH to CA and the hauler was super to work with. It was M&N Transportation in MI. Best quote and quality service. I prepped the boat as follows: removed all gear from the masts; wrapped all stays and lines on the mast using self-sticking pipe insulation (you can buy boxes of the stuff at a hardware or Home Depot); wrapped the masts in clear plastic and duct taped it up; the boat was shrink-wrapped for the winter but the wrap didn't make the trip. In fact I wouldn't recommend shrink wrap, it left blue marks all over the hull. You want to be sure to remove all of the deck stuff, including removing dorades, etc. Good luck!

As for prepping your craft, you might want to check out some earlier comments on "Mariner's Net Log". Good luck.
