Hi,
Just bought a Typhoon and am waiting to have it hauled to my location. I want to order a few things that need replaced and was hoping someone could help me out.
I need to replace the halyards and would like to know the length and diameter (they are all rope halyards, right?) How about the mainsheet?
Also, need to paint the hull and was wondering if a gallon of paint will be enough. I think so but would like to be sure.
Thanks in advance,
Stephen
PS- Anyone have any advice regarding rigging and shroud tension?

My 1981 manual says the following:
Weekender/Daysailor
Main Halyard 56'/50'
Jib Halyard 48'/50'
Main Sheet 40'/40'(all 5/16 line)
I added a few feet to the jib halyard for raising and lowering the mast and every thing works fine for my '76 Typhoon Weekender. I replaced all my lines this year; I think I used sta set. As for rigging tension I just go by feel after the mast is plumb both fore and aft and athwartships. Be sure to hook up the lower shrouds to the aft chainplates and to raise the mast gently. I replaced each turnbuckle toggle at the base of the shrouds because they were bent, I bet, by both hasty raising of the mast and because the lowers were fastened forward. Assuming you are talking about bottom paint, I think a gallon would be enough.
Good luck and good sailing,

Re: Halyards for Typhoon
I just bought and reworked a Typhoon last month. You'd better hope a mouse family didn't live in your mast feeding on your Halyards as they did on mine. It took a day to clean the mast out and run new Halyards.
For painting, I used a quart of Petit Easy Poxy on the topsides (previous owner had painted over the gelcoat!) and then a 1/2 gallon of bottom paint easily provided for two thick coats.

Re: Halyards for Typhoon
Measure the distance from where the halyard enters the mast and exits the mast. Add the distance from the lower exit to the mast mounted or deck mounted cleat. Double this and add about 10' feet. My Typhoon uses 3/8" braid (low stretch). My main sheet is 25' of 3/8" braid (nothing exotic) and that is a bit short. One gallon of bottom paint will give you 3-4 coats depending on how liberal you are with thickness and how much you have on you, the surrounding ground and the cat.
