I installed a fine new Raritan PHII head in Second Chance this week and I am replacing hoses. Tried to get a Shields 148 3/4" intake hose on the spartan intake seacock and it ALMOST fits but just doesn't make it. Tried soap, head lube to no avail. Skinned a few knuckles trying. Tried heating with a heat gun and it went on, but it deformed the hose and seemed to weaken it. Don't want that, especially on seacock intake. Am I using the wrong type of hose? Have others done better with a different hose?

Re: Head Hose Help!
They usually recommend soaking it in hot water. You might have just over done it with the heat gun, but hoses are a challenge especially wire reinforced ones.Bill Goldsmith wrote: I installed a fine new Raritan PHII head in Second Chance this week and I am replacing hoses. Re: Head Hose Help!
Bill,
Ran into the same problem when I replace the head and all the hose in Lady Jane last year. By chance I measured the deck pumpout fitting and found the OD to be 1 5/8" not 1 1/2". I called Sparten to find out why 1 5/8" when the standard on all head discharge hose is
1 1/2"? Their answer...1 5/8" is standard with us.
Try measuring the the intake barb. You will probally find it to a very strong 3/4".
By the way boiling water will soften the hose without badly deforming it. Good luck and keep the band aids handy.
