CD28-30 or so?

CD28-30 or so?
In the late 80's we had a 23ft ob (Watkins) which we sailed in delaware bay(motored) and chesapeake(sailed)..
We are thinking about sailing again and my husbands wants a Cape Dory,
He just retired and I will be retiring in 2-3 years..we would be going out of Wildwood-Cape May, NJ..and plan more chesapeake sailing and would like to eventually take some trips north to Boston, and south to NC area..
Do you think a 28-30ft CD is big enough to handle off shore sailing.
We have never done any off shore sailing..
Thanks, Nancy

The 25D has been around the world. The trips you are planning are coastal... either the 28 or the 30 would have no problem handling them.
We find that the 28 is a great two-person cruiser.

Nancy - Either the 28 or 30 would be able to handle any coastal cruising you are planning, plus an offshore journey if you desire. I recently sailed a 330 in some pretty nasty weather from South Carolina to Cape May with 4 people onboard. The extra crew was welcome for the overnight sailing, but the accommodations got a bit snug with all our gear when we were all below at a dock. This just added to our incentive to stay offshore. I chose the 330 as it is a perfect family cruiser. The 28 or 30 is perfectly suited for a couple.
My 330 is in Cape May until this Friday evening if you would like to stop over and take a look. After that she is heading home to New York and then to Onset for the rendezvous. Depending on your schedule you might consider joining us in Onset, MA to see the various models side by side. I have received reservations for the following CD:

25D
27
28

Re: CD28-30 or so?
We are proud owners of a CD30, built in 1979. She has sailed from the
US to New Zealand via the Pacific, with no problems, much of the
trip being with one or two aboard. Some weeks back we were caught in
severe weather with 58 knot gusts and rough sea, and we were very
happy with her performance. She certainly felt as though she could
ride out much worse conditions with good seamanship.
A few days ago I sailed her alone for the first time, using the autopilot
to steer while I was forard making sail changes, and was delighted with
her performance. These are undoubtedly good solid, graceful and sea
kindly yachts and they deserve their reputation.
I would consider the CD30 to be a better offshore boat than many of the
larger yachts that leave NZ every year and sail into the Pacific and
beyond.

It says to "click on," and it sure looks as if there ought to be more pages, but nothing is clickable except the banner ad.

Re: Thank you
Thanks all of you for your response. As usual, it's what I like about sailors....I have visited the web site Mike recommended...it helped me feel better about a 27 -28 ft CD...as did all the responses...I also have printed all the specs for 25D thru 30' from the ccda main page. I remember when we bought our 1st sail boat (only one) we went from Md to CT to boat shows...of course that experience helps now...but this board is great....its much better reading about other peoples questions & the responses...than listening to sales people...
Thanks again,
Nancy & Richard Hall
By the way, Chris, thanks for your invite to see your boat in Cape May...we have a summer place in WCrest and usually would be their on Friday...but not this friday...thanks...
