There are two bedroom apartments (big hole) and one bedroom apartments (smaller hole). Opt for the smaller hole on the land and you get the boat for free.

And when they do, they invariably use the wrong denominator. It's not about checking the log and counting the number of sailing days. Use the number of days you enjoy your boat and the cost per day goes way down.

My first several years at the marina, there was an O'Day 28 near me that was launched in early May and hauled in mid-October. In between, the boat was never rigged and never visited that I could tell. Turns out the elderly owner was ill and not able to use the boat but he didn't give up the dream of recovery and sailing again. I suggest he got his money's worth.

Not to mention the time spent thinking about time spent on boat.

Special time not on the boat includes:

Going to West Marine for the tide book months before I might actually use it.

Buying the right zinc in the fall because I'm sure they won't have the one I need in the spring.

Spreading the charts out and planning and plotting.

Looking at gas prices and realizing that the best yielding investment I have is the summer's worth of diesel I have in the tank from last year (or was it the year before?).

What about going to West Marine? I go in there for a paint brush and 20 minutes later I'm putting $70, $80, $90 on my credit card. And every time, I say to myself "But I needed that stuff. Now I won't have to pick it up next time."

Sure, but look at all the exercise we get walking up and down the aisles (multiple times to make sure we didn't miss anything).

Speaking of exercise, here's how I saved $3000 last year. When the dinghy engine wouldn't start last spring, I got rid of it. No more spending $150 every spring to get it started so I can use it, what, 4 or 5 times? Not only that, I decided not to buy a new engine ... there's another $1500 saved. On the rare occasions we go somewhere that doesn't have launch service, I'm happy to row the dinghy the half mile or so in to shore. Now I find I'm in a lot better shape, so guess what ... I dropped my gym membership. There's another $1500!

That included a new Honda 2hp kicker.
Haul out in fall and launch in spring.
Winter storage at marina.
Bottom painting.
Mooring fee to state (for letting me keep it in the middle of river).
Plus a hundred little things to keep her afloat.

Don't forget the Typhoon is smaller, so hauling and launching fees and storage are less. They charge by the foot.
