Rain Suit

Re: Rain Suit
After 30 years of riding motorcycles in all types of weather, here's a tip. Save yourself some money and get a motorcycle rainsuit. They are much cheaper than the marine ones, are just as waterproof and very easy to put on or remove. Just my 2 cents worth.John wrote: I need to buy a new rain suit!!!! I bought the W-M Explorer last year...well rated by practical Sailor 2 years ago.John wrote: I need to buy a new rain suit!!!! Does anyone have any suggestions?
Problem is, I've only used it to walk the dog in the rain...never rained when I was out sailing. Good insurance against rain??<VBG?

Crossing the Atlantic or just day sailing?
I at least plan for good weather, so the rain gear stays in the locker most of the time. Low end works fine for me.
I think Practical Sailor did a review not that long ago.

John-
My wife and I are NE Patriot fans and "invested" in two rollable, stowable yet non-marine color Gore-tex rainsuits from LL Bean. We have been caught in two MAJOR downpours in the stadium and two at sea and I was the most comfortable guy in the world! Can't say enough about them, but they were $200 for the full suit (the only con). They are wonderful and only require a hand towel around the neck for 100% water repellency and comfort. Frostbite sailing gloves and sea boots from West Marine completes the outfit, but it is worth every penny when a downpour arises!
And that sir, is my two bits worth. Good Luck!!

Re: Rain Suit
I solved the problem similar to Don Carr's solution. I ride a bicycle when I'm not sailing. I used my Goretex Bicycle Raingear (top and bottom) purchased from Performance (less than $200). It works great in a blow and combined with waterproof yellow boots and a Sou'wester is difficult to beat.

West Marine Third Reef is pretty good. Jacket and pants can be found on sale for $100.
