typhoon mast tune

Hi everyone Why aren't you out sailing?
I am not sailing because I need help tuning the mast on my new 1976 Typhoon. It has a fractional rig with uppers and aft lowers. There are no forward lower shrouds.
The problem is that there is an aft hook above the headstay connection with the mast. If I tighten the backstay, the top of the mast goes further back. If I tighten the head stay, it pulls the headstay connection, putting an even more pronounced hook in the top of the mast. If I try to tighten EITHER head or back stay for sailing tune, the hook gets even more pronounced. Tightening the after shrouds seems to have no effect. Can anyone give me some advice? Thanks!

Assuming the backstay is loose and the mast is still bent, it would seem your mast is bent from some other event, maybe being stored withoput support?
I've bent other masts but never a Typhoon. They say that once bent it will never be quite the same again and have a tendency to take up that curve again. If it's not too bad and the sail sets OK, you could live with it.

i believe you are just looking at built in rake we have on our weekender too....sail sets fine...rake is primarily above forestay haven't had too much weather helm or anything so it seems like it is supposed to be there...i had previous posts on thios question if you look

Hi Jamie.
what i always tell people is to back all your turnbuckles out, then turn them all the same amount of times until tighting, all so using a level on the front of the mast to make sure it is straight.
it only takes a few mins to do and it works.
you can get a gauge for that as well, in any marine store for $25.
