Reefing hardware for Typhoon

Post by Jim Serra »

Has anybody recently added reefing hardware (pad eye, cheek block, cleat, and hook) to a Typhoon boom? I'm looking for any information on brand and size recommendations for all four items. How about actual mounting screw sizes and lengths? Is there a simple rule for the size of a drill bit and tap compared to the size of a screw? This information would certainly help make this last pre-launch chore a smooth one.

Thanks!

I installed jiffy-reefing on my Typhoon last season. Speak to Kim at Rig-Rite (see "Where to Look"), they supplied all the hardware including the screws and specified the drill bit size. A very key upgrade!

I recently added two reef points to my Typhoon. Wish I had done it years ago. I used the micro cheek blocks and a sturdy padeye on the end of the boom. I placed one on each side of the boom with different colored line for each so that I wouldn't get them confused. I has worked well. Good luck with it and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
