In the section "how to post an avatar" it states that one has to have it edited by a commercial photo editor. Then it states that one does not have to have it in the commercial residence.
Question: does this mean that I have to use an outside source initially and then be able to access it from my files? Thanks. Bill in Maine.

Bill,

If you're using a PC (not a Mac) and you have a Microsoft operating system or Microsoft Office, your computer should have come with Microsoft Photo Editor pre-installed.

Follow the Start menu to All Programs then Microsoft Office Tools. It should be in there.

If not, when you double-click on a JPEG, what program opens? It should be Microsoft Photo Editor by default unless some other graphics package was installed on the computer since you purchased it. Anyway, try it.

If the Photo Editor is what opens:
1) Use the Select tool which is available in the tool bar -- it's the tool that looks like a square made up of a dashed line. Use it to define the cropped image (draw a box around your face in the photo with it). Then from the Image Menu select Crop.
2) From the File Menu select Properties and change the the Resolution to 72 dpi and click on OK.
3) From the Image Menu select Resize and change the Units to pixels then the dimensions so that they are no greater than 80x80 pixels (just change the largest of the two dimensions to 80, the other will adjust automatically), then click on OK.
4) The image may then appear super miniscule but that's probably because you need to change the zoom level to 100%. From the View Menu select Zoom and change it to 100%. Now you'll see what your little Avatar will look like.
5) Select Save As from the File Menu and save it to your desktop or somewhere convenient.
6) Then upload it as an Avatar from your board profile (Your Settings).

Hope this helps.

If you can't do it, send it to me the original image and I'll modify it for
you.
