battens for Typhoon?

Post by robert brown »

I opened up my sails today, (new boat), and there are no battens for my main sail. Anyone know measurements, I can measure the openings, 2 @ 19"X1.5" & 2 @x 24"X1.5" Should I make them or buy them and what materials or where to locate

Thanks,

Robert

You buy them at any marine chandlery and cut them to length. They are made of fiberglass. The brand name I remember is Bete-Fleming or something like that. They are tapered, meaning they start thin in front and get thicker towards the rear. When you trim them, trim them at the thick (rear) end. Leave them just long enough that the batten is under slight compression after it is slipped into the pocket. They usually come with plastic tips for each end to protect the sail.

Battens for Ty

Post by Bill »

Stan, just yesterday I called West Marine (I know, I know) and ordered a 48" batten for my CD28 that I could find nowhere else.
Guy was great! And...he had a Ty, so we talked CD's and hardware. My batten should be here Thursday. Bill in Maine.
