From a prop illiterate: I have been given a 3-blade prop from a 1986 CD 26 and am thinking of replacing the 2-blader currently on my 1982 CD 25D. Both engines are the same (Yanmar 1GM10) and both props and shafts are original factory equipment, as are engines. Will this work, or am I looking at a dive and a re-grinding when I get it back in water? Am working on it this week (4/24-4/27). THANX

If you are going from a 2 blade to a 3 blade prop and your 2 blade had been correctly sized, i.e. no engine overload, full rpm range, hull speed attained, etc. Then the rule of thumb is to drop 1 inch of prop diameter or 1" of prop pitch from the 2 blade dimensions to get the equivalent 3 blade prop.Lawrence Dennis wrote: From a prop illiterate: I have been given a 3-blade prop from a 1986 CD 26 and am thinking of replacing the 2-blader currently on my 1982 CD 25D.
