Ah Ha! The easiest way to post photos on the board!

After extensive testing in the Sandbox, I believe I have found the best way to handle photos.

Open an account with PhotoBucket (free) and upload your photos. When you want to post something, select the photo you want to post and have PhotoBucket generate the IMG code for you by simply clicking on a button at the bottom of the page, then copy and paste that code directly into the message box on the CD Board (you don't need to add anything to it).

That's it.

Works with multiple images.

Also can generate code for a clickable thumbnail that will open a new window for viewing the photo.

It's slick. It's easy. I like it.

Very nice job with the pictures. I noticed you have a deep reef set up in the main with a line running forward. It looks like it runs through the boom bails then to a block at the goose neck. From there it heads for the mast base and is a mystery beyond that. Where is this line made fast and how do you handle the tack of the sail? Beautiful boat and the low angle shots under sail are very impressive. She shows a nice shine on the topsides, Steve.

how and when do you put name in before or after the site (http://)

i under stand that a picture put in here is done different then pulling up a site right

or am i trying to do both at the same time

Both sets of reefing lines lead forward along the starboard side of the boom where they are made fast at two cleats located on the boom just aft of the gooseneck. We handle the tack at the gooseneck as well.

If you want to add a link to a URL - another internet site - you should click the "URL" button on the "Post a reply" page, enter the address - for example, http://www.ariel-cd36.org - then click the "URL" button again to make the link active. This will allow people who view your message to click on the link in your message and then view the internet site you have "sent" them to - what you have done with the West Wight Potter site.

If you want to add a picture to your message, you need to be sure that you're linking to a picture first. The way to check is to be sure that the link - for example, http://www.ariel-cd36.org/ariel_onthehardbig.jpg - ends with a .jpg or .gif or .bmp. If your link does not end with one of those, you're probably not linking to a specific picture but rather a web page that has pictures on it. To include a picture in your message, find the specific address for a picture, click the "IMG" button, insert the address line - for example, http://www.ariel-cd36.org/ariel_onthehardbig.jpg - then click on the "IMG" button again to complete the image.

I think your biggest problem when it comes to posting individual images is that your Yahoo Pictures account will not let you access just one picture - you have to access the entire album. You might want to check out the Photobucket site that my dad mentioned: http://photobucket.com/. It's free and easy to use.

This does work and makes short work of including a photo as long as the photo is less than 540 pixels wide. If it's greater than 540 pixels wide then you need to use the HTML tags rather than the BBCode tags. When my server went down, I noticed that a picture that I had "posted" to the board was no longer visible. This suggests that over time there will be a large number of postings in the archive that won't have images attached. I guess this is done to save bandwidth and disc space on the CD board server.

If you post a picture that you want to last, then you need to put on a server that's not going away.

Bob, I'm not sure what you mean. Did you have photos with one of the on-line photography sites like ClubPhoto or ShutterFly? They will delete your albums after a while unless you pay them money.

Or did you have your photos on your own website and the host went out of business?

Sometimes you can put a tag for a photo in your message and it will work when you preview it (maybe because it is in your computer's memory - perhaps stored as "offline content" or something?? I'm just guessing here.) and then won't work the next time you come back to it.

If you use something like PhotoBucket it should work everytime. At least it has for me.

Dave, I had the photo on my own server, and a configuration problem took it off line for a while.

My point was that the photos that are included in messages are simply referenced. That means that a year or two from now I would expect that a lot of the messages on the board won't have working photo links any more.

It's probably better if everyone doesn't use the same photo service (e.g. Photobucket) for their postings. If we do, and the service goes away, the board will loose a large number of the images all at once.
