In answer to clarification on my Q regarding mast alignment ... my main and mizzen masts are essentially straight as arrows. My inquiry concerns alignment relative to boat itself; that is, I assume the rig should sit perpendicular without a 'rake' aft.

Innamorato's new bowsprit is installed and now reinstalling furler and bob-stay and attempting to re-tune rig. Old bowsprit had a upward warp and thus original (setup) length of bob-stay and furler turnbuckles is off by a couple inches. After sitting for last couple months, there is an obvious "rake" in the mast and mizzen.

Question is: should the rig be exactly straight up (perpendicular)? Once I get that answer, I can apply the right musicology to shroud and stay tension.

Don: Your serious question nearly got lost amid all the levity.

Your mainmast should be perpendicular or very slightly angled aft, maybe a degree or so. Nothing looks worse than a mast that droops forward. But too much aft rake will induce weather helm, which you probably don't need.

Your mizzen should be angled aft a degree or two more than the main, otherwise it, too, looks odd.

It sounds as if you might have to lengthen the forestay a bit if there's no slack left in the turnbuckle.

...The "personal pics" are avatars that have been discussed. You have to register and then look under the link "My Setting', which has a section to have a small jpg or gif there. Search around, there is an upper limit on the size of the pic file, or Cathy M. might pop in here and remind us all.

Hi Greg,

Took me several tries to get the file below the size max. By luck I saved as File type "gif" and then resaved as a jpg. This is after reducing down to the stated max. of 50 by 50

The max size is 80 x 80 pixels so you can make a new, larger avatar if you want as long as the file size is less than 6K. See: <a href="http://www.capedory.org/board/viewtopic ... 47">Sticky: Adding an Avatar to your profile....how to... </a> for additional info regarding avatars.

Or one could simply read the instructions, like Cathy just said. Remember, I am a male, so I dont read instructions, ask for directions or the like, which is why I didnt think of that.

Continuing along the lines of the first question, are you trying to put any sort of bend in the mast? W/ the relatively thick mast extrusion and for some, deck stepping w/o compression posts, it tends to be a bad idea.
Idea, set up the mast to what you think is correct, then go out and try your setup. Various points of sail, how is the sail doing, and where is the boom, i.e. too low when close hauled. All that COULD be affected by your mast setup.
