Head Sink - CD 27

Post by Duncan Maio »

I can't figure out how to run the sink drain from the slide-out head sink to the bilge in my recently acquired CD 27 (hull #37). There is a short flexible hose attached to the sink, but no (apparent) fitting to connect it to the bilge or a through-hull.

The hose is just the right length to drain into the head, but the gymnastics required to do this (the seat gets in the way) are prohibitive.

What am I missing?

Slide-head sink?? I have hull #218 and don't have one. Is this a custom job from some previous owner, or was this a factory option?

My owner's manual doesn't mention it.

It's possible that this is a custom installation, but the fit and finish suggest a factory job, at least as an option.

The manual shows the supply line and foot pump inked in, but no drain line. The diagrams for the 28 and 30 indicate a drain line running to the bilge, but I can't find a similar hose (or a place for one) on my boat.

After having spent some time trying to devise a workable head sink installation my CD 27, I would be interested in hearing more details about your sliding type. Where does it slide to? What is it constructed of? Does it really work, or have you had a chance to try it out? Thanks in advance.

Ed:

The sink slides out from just above the head; in the stowed position, it is outboard of the head under a fixed shelf. The sink unit is made up of a round stainless bowl set in a plywood countertop, a faucet that slides down into the counter when the sink is stowed, a plywood front panel that conceals the underside of the bowl and plumbing, and a foot pump located next to the head pump.

In order to operate the sink, I have to (a) unlock the sink and slide it forward (inboard); (b) raise the faucet; (c) with my left hand, reach under the front panel and lift the head seat; (d) with my right hand, reach behind the sink, push the drain hose around the partially raised head seat, and pull the seat all the way back. After using the sink, the operation is reversed, and waste water is pumped out through the head.

Operation is very simple, except for the drain line. the plywood panel behind the head seems to meet the sole at the same point where the hull meets the sole; therefore, there is no room behind the panel to drill through the sole and run a drain line to the bilge.

I will happily send photos; please e-mail your s-mail address.
