oiled teak question

Post by Jim Serra »

I'm about to purchase a Typhoon that has oiled teak. The owner used Starbrite Tropical Teak Oil Sealer. I, however, am a big fan of Cetol. I assume that I can't put Cetol on top of this oil. Does anyone have any suggestions (possibly a cleaner) on preparing the teak?

Thanks in advance.

West Marine's two part teak cleaner worked fine for me. My boat's wood had been oiled for years, and it cleaned right up.

You will have to remove the oil, first, before you apply the Cetol. Teak cleaners purchased from your local marine store will remove the oil easily.
