I am considering purchasing a CD 270. Have seen the boat and it looks pretty good. Does anyone out there have an opinion on the CD 270? How it handles with the centerboard, suitability for limited offshore sailing, any known problems?
Someone asked why there were so few CD 26's. Better yet, why so few CD 270's? There were only 23! Any help would be appreciated.
This site and the CCDA are doing a great service.

CD 270 - Opinion of boat?

Re: CD 270 - Opinion of boat?
About a possible reason for so few 270s. First Empacher did a pretty good job witht he design. The boat offered more interior space with its wider beam. But this was a fairly expensive boat for its time. I remember something like $54-57K. This may be one of the reasons for poor sales.

Dana wrote: I've owned a CD270 for the past three years: purchased in Vermont, sailed to New England, coast of Maine, Bay of Fundy. Been off coast for up to three days following whales. As a single-handed sailor, the 270 handles extremely well in all sorts of weather. Use board mainly for beating, otherwise it stays up. Boat has good stability and very comfortable. Great boat for getting into limited anchorages.
