AC Main breaker and outlet placement ??'s On CD25D

Post by Bill »

Hello to all

Well I now have the AC inlet installed in the cockpit and am triing to decide where to place the main breaker and one outlet (very small system).

I think I have finally decided on placing both the main and outlet inside the engine compartment just forward of the engine compartment bulkhead (in the quarter berth).

What are your comments please?

Bill,

I have a similiar question for the CD-30. I've installed a shorepower connector in the aft bulkhead of the cockpit, starboard side, and a 3 circuit with main AC panel in the aft starboard bulkhead of the cabin(just outboard of the 12v panel). What I don't know is: where do the duplex outlets go? I was going to put one by the sink (with GFCI protection) and daisy chain two more off of it. But where do the two go? Hope someone else who reads your post will also see this one and answer both of our questions.

Oh, one other thing, do not run the neutral(white) to your ships ground. It should ONLY go back to the shorepower connector at the dock. Plus, your AC ground(green) onboard should attach to the same point as your DC ground, do not split them, or you will set up a salt water battery system that will eat your metal.

Bill:

I installed the shore power years ago on my boat shortly after purchasing the boat in 1986. I have the main AC fused in a box that I built mounted on the main bulkhead accessing from the Port locker from the cockpit. I have it slightly above but next to my Surflo water pressure pump, which is to the right of the batteries. I did this as a precaution should the pump or plumbing develope a leak it would not fall onto the electrical box. I have found over the years that this is a good location and stays dry even in off shore passages. I have a switch for the power located slightly above the box with the power switch being accessed from the galley inside the cabin. On the bulkhead towards center line of the boat from inside the cabin I have located a 110 volt outlet and another over the fiddles in the galley area. I also have located another 110 outlet upforward in the head. This way
someone could plug in a hair dryer or electric shaver while in the head. I also have a shower located in the head area and for this reason recommend that you use a GFI outlet designed for outside use with a cover to prevent water from splashing into the outlet. Hope this helps.
