New England Rendevzou - July 17 - 18

Post by Chris Reinke »

Plans for The Cape Dory Owners Rendezvous scheduled for July 17 - 18, at Point Independence Yacht Club in Onset MA, are progressing well. I want to take this opportunity to pass along some additional details and also give a word of thanks to everyone who has provided assistance in pulling this all together. The interest in having a New England area gathering has been overwhelming. We all share a love of our CD's and an eagerness to share our passion with others. I have received almost 100 notes of thanks and appreciation from owners who were hoping for just such an event. As of today I have about 60 boats hoping to attending our July 17-18 event.

The event is designed to be a forum of sharing ideas, adventures, suggestions and dreams. The schedule is as follows:
Saturday July 17, 1999
Morning - Continental Breakfast at PIYC (menu and cost listed below)
afternoon - Group sail / Power - I am still looking for additional suggestions for both sailing events and something for our power friends (6 power boats hoping to join the festivities)
Evening - BBQ Dinner (menu and cost listed below) followed by presentation(s):
Hood Sails - sail maintenance and technological advances
Possibly from Raytheon Radar and Universal Diesels

Sunday July 18, 1999
Morning - Continental Breakfast at PIYC (menu and cost listed below)

The reservation and costing details are listed below:

Yacht Club
The club has reserved 25 moorings and several slip for our group. They permit up to 3 boats rafting together on each mooring (space provided). The mooring fee is $15.00 per night with no additional charge for rafting. An area for additional anchorage is available if needed. The slip fee is $1.00 per foot with an additional charge ($5-$10) if you desire electricity/water hook-up.

PIYC will be providing me with the use of their launch during our social events (Breakfast and Dinner) to reduce the congestion at the tender dock. PIYC shall also be providing a cash bar Saturday evening.

The mooring reservations will be allocated on a first come first served basis. A 50% reservation fee is requested to hold a reservation. The fee is refundable with 24 hours prior notice. The checks will be held (not cashed) until 24 hours prior to the event.

Checks are made payable to PIYC Yacht Club and mailed to Chris Reinke at the address listed below. Please do not combine the mooring and food payment on one check as they will be disbursed to separate vendors.

Catering
I have secured the services of a local caterer for the breakfast and dinner gatherings. The menu and associated costs are listed below:

Breakfast Buffet: ($5.50 per person)
Farm Fresh Scrambled Eggs
Home Fries
Baked Virginia Ham
Boston Baked Beans
Assorted Fresh Baked Muffins
Fresh Brewed Coffee and Juice

B.B.Q Dinner: ($9.50 per person)
Your choice of either: BBQ Chicken, Beef Kabobs or Linguica (Portuguese Sausage) - (Choice required at time of reservation)
Garden Salad or Potato Salad
Grilled Hamburgers
Grilled Hot Dogs
Buttered local corn
Watermelon (in season)
choice of Coffee, Punch or Iced Tea

P.I.Y.C. shall provide as cash bar for alcoholic beverages and soda during dinner Saturday evening and continuing for the duration of the nights socializing.

Reservation and payment for the catered meals must be RECEIVED by Thursday July 1, 1999. Payment should be via check made payable to Chris Reinke and sent to the address listed below. Please be sure to note your entree selection (Chicken, Kabobs, Linguica) when making dinner reservations.

Guest List
I will be making a guest list for all attendees to take with them at the conclusion of the rendezvous. I hope that this will assist us all in maintaining contacts with the new friends we meet or old friends we have not seen in a while. If you have not already done so, please forward the following information to my attention as soon as possible:
Name
Address
Phone
e-mail
CD Model
Vessel Name
Home Port

Deadlines
The reservation deadline of Thursday July 1, 1999 MUST be complied with as I shall be cruising from July 2, 1999 onwards. I will therefore be unable to forward any reservation information or payments after that date.

Please feel free to pass this information to any other CD owners you may be aware of as I only have the contacts provided by the California Cape Dory Owners Association registry.

I am welcoming suggestions for Saturdays sailing agenda, along with ideas for our Motor Cruiser attendees. I would appreciate your comments on activities you have found to be enjoyable at other such events (acceptable for general publication).

Looking forward to seeing all of you,
Chris Reinke

Thanks for all your work, Chris.

Any arrangements yet for any California Cape Dory Owners Assn. members who might happen to wander by and need shore accommodations? :-)

Thanks for all the work getting this set up!!! My check's in the mail.

My plan for heading south from Boston, based on tides and currents through the canal, are to sail to Scituate on Thursday (afternoon?) and to Onset Friday morning. Would love to coordinate with those coming from down east, Boston, Scituate, etc.

Chris, I would like to add my sincere THANK YOU for all the effort you have put into this CD Rendezvous.
My work schedule for that period has just had a wrench thrown into it, so I will have to wait a tad until things firm up.
Again, thanks from all of the CD 'family'.

Chris,

We definitely plan on attending the rendezvous at Onset.

Do we make our check out to "PIYC Yacht Club" or "PIYC" or "Point Independence Yacht Club"?

We are still looking for crew to sail with us from Morgan, NJ if anyone's interested. We could also pick up crew along the route if feasible.

Realization, our CD32, has berths for 6 -- but 5 would be more comfortable.

We will sail to the Onset gathering whether we acquire crew or not. If not, we would be glad to take on crew upon arrival at Onset. Anyone arriving sans boat is welcome to join us either for the weekend (rather than staying at a hotel) or for whatever sailing activities are planned during the rendezvous.

Neil et al:
As indicated Serenitas(located in Scituate Harbor) is planning to join you on your way down to Onset. I think there are a couple of other CD'ers in our harbor who plan to make this a flotilla. Spoke with the a newspaper woman last night who wants a picture of the Dory's leaving the harbor for the Scituate Mariner.Seems they think its newsworthy...we just think its going to be fun.

Cathy - The check for the mooring / slip reservation should be made payable to either PIYC or Point Independence Yacht Club. The food reservation check should be made payable to me, Chris Reinke, so I may cash it and utilize the funds to pay the caterer (he offered a price discount for cash payment).

Reminder to everyone - The mooring check will be held until 24 hours prior to your reservation. The food check will be cashed a couple of weeks before the event. All check MUST be received by Thursday, July 1, 1999 as I am leaving port on Friday morning.

Problem is that while we're sailing to Onset, we won't be able to get a copy of the Scituate newspaper. <G> Can we get original photos maybe, suitable for framing??

The current turns in the canal at about 1:30 pm on the 16th... I would suspect that an early cast off in Scituate is best.

Can you arrange for the wind to be more from the north and less SW for the trip to the canal?
