stripping bottom paint

My cd25 had 8 years of paint on her bottom and it's time to strip. I've learned to make my own paint remover that beats anything I have ever tried, including Peel-Away.. Here t'is, make a saturated solution of lye (NaOH) in a bucket of warm water, when the solution is cool, slowly disolve corn starch. This allows the stuff to thicken and cling to vertical surfaces. Apply with a long nap roller, press plastic sheet or serran rap on the hull.Take a nap. With a sharpe scraper the old paint just drops off. Cost for my hull? $7.00...Try it but wear gloves an eye protection. It's too good and true.

This sounds great! I have two boats to strip. Could you tell me what the proportions would be. Also, where you buy Lye. Is lye dangerous to handle by itself.
