Storing CD-25 on Trailer for long period of time
I hate the thought of selling my 1981 CD-25 but I may be transferred out of the country for about three years. One option is to buy a trailer and store the boat out of the weather. Can it hurt the hull to store the boat for this long on a trailer in a covered area, I have read some discussions about getting dents in the hull from the trailer rollers. The boat is currently on a fresh water lake and is in very good condition. Please provide any storage knowledge/experiences available.

Just make certain all of the weight is on the keel, the bunks or rollers are there only to keep the boat upright and the spar should be out (off). The trailer should be blocked up off the wheels just like you'd store a car for a long period. Whatever covering you use should be ventilated.

When I bought my 1975 CD25 it had sat on the trailer in the open, in a marina, in downtown Chicago for over three years. Never moved. Not too good for the trailer. Tires shot! Wheel bearing grease in need of help! Electrics bad. No problem for the boat though, other than very, very dirty. The boat had no leaks so there was no water damage inside, this could make a difference. You ask about rollers. My trailer has no rollers. (I believe rollers are used on "trailer-sailers".) The keel sits on (in actually) a shelf, on a 2x8 wood pad. The hull is supported by, two per side, screw adjusted popets, welded to the frame. These popets are topped by carpet covered, wooden pads which are free to self-align with the hull.Jim in Texas wrote: I hate the thought of selling my 1981 CD-25 but I may be transferred out of the country for about three years. I trailer my boat and also store the boat on the trailer at home.
