Hello to all.
I am about to install shore power on my 25D! Where would others install it? I am considering forward in the port locker or aft in the starbd locker. Since this will be a simple circuit (only one outlet in the cabin) the only difference I see is the length of run from the receptacle (from the shore cord) to the onboard outlet (via a double pole 30a breaker box). Of course I mean in the cockpit footwell.
I am ready to cut, any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Bill,
Some of the larger CDs came with shore power already installed. In particular, the CD28 has it installed along the back of the cockpit (stern end) on the starboard side. The panel is also on the starboard side in the aft section above the ice box. There is a main circuit braker and separate circuit breakers for the outlets, the water heater and a spare. There is also a tally light to let you know when there is power available to be switched "on" and a tally to alert you if the polarity is incorrect. This side was probably chosen on this model because the DC power panel is also on the starboard side and the outlets are located on this side for the galley, head and v-berth.
One thing to keep in mind is that the AC power inlet device should be a marine 30-ampere inlet with means to screw the 30-amp marine power cable into for waterproof connection. It is also prudent to place the inlet where it is unlikely to get "pulled" or otherwise strained while energized. It should not create a hazard for someone to "trip on" either.
There are good articles available on installing shore power in past magazines and I believe there is a book available at West Marine or BOAT/US on this. Be careful in what you do as you can have profound effects on electrolysis and other hazards on the boat without your knowledge. It is prudent to consult someone who is truly knowledgeable on the subject in the marine environment and not just someone who is a licensed electrician --- even if the electrician is knowledgeable about docks, marinas, etc. as defined in the National Electrical Code. The on-board electrical grounding and circuitry is specialized. NOT difficult, but different.
Think before you bore!! Consider all the elements involved!! Look at other boats and see what they did --- preferably factory installations.
Best Wishes,
