Bleeding fuel system on CS 28' with 2 cyl. Volvo

Post by Keith Fawcett »

CD 28 with Volvo (2 cylinder). So after a cold snap she will not start. Turns over briskly, used starter fluid spray, fuel tank full. Spun her over and then second person cracked injector nuts and fuel came out. Pink, no bubbles in fuel. When using starter spray she booms, booms, booms but will not catch and run. Fuel tank is full and the last time she was run, water temp and oil pressure all were OK. Ran her for about 1/2 hour then raced her and pulled stop. Shut down fine. I have good cooling water flow when cranking, occasional surges of water out the transom pipe. I checked all the throttle and engine stop linkages and they all were good. I also tried all positions of throttle for the start with the shift cable disengaged with the black knob in the center of the throttle/shift lever. Now what friends ? Anyone with similar problems. Tried to start her late in the afternoon on 75 degree days also. Once in awhile she almost took off, that is engine seemed to start cranking faster that the starter turns her over.

If anyone has a list of the bleed points incase I have to drain and bleed the fuel system that would be mighty helpful. I am helping a friend here and my Yanmar has three points to bleed in sequence.

Thanks for the help in advance, could you also e-mail your response to me at " georgesail@aol.com"

Happy Sailing to you all.

Sounds like you have bad fuel. Check your tank for algae. This can be a frequent problem in climates that have warmer mean temperature. A simple suggestion. I have always heard when a desiel does not run it is usually the feul. In regards to bleeding; I just crack the nut at the lower injector connection and turn the engine. They usually bleed themselves. Have a helper and a rag handy. : CD 28 with Volvo (2 cylinder). So after a cold snap she will not start. Turns over briskly, used starter fluid spray, fuel tank full.
