The bilge in my CD28 is deep enough (or my arm is short enough) that I cannot reach the bottom to retrieve dropped objects, work on my automatic bilge pump, etc.. The bilge pump is mounted on the end of a piece of stainless bar, so it is retrievable, but I'd still like to reach into the bottom.
I am thinking of partially filling in (maybe half the depth) with pour-foam, and using one or two layers of fiberglass over that, so the bilge would only be half as deep.
Does anyone have any comments as to why this would be inadvisable? The bilge might be deep for a reason, but if so I don't know what it is.
