100,000th Visitor !!!!!!

Post by Dennis Truett »

Wow! I Don't Know if I'm more proud to be the 100,000th visitor to our message board, or to be the proud new owner of a CD22!!!!! In any case, I would like to say that I enjoy this WEB site more than any other I visit. The knowledge, friendship, and virtual comradery that exists between our site users is outstanding. I have used this site to obtain a substantial amount of information in the past, and will continue to offer any help I can in the future.

Thanks for the honor, Happy Sailing.... And lets see who will be # 200,000!

and let me just say I am honored to be the FIRST POSTING to the 100000th visitor's acknowledgement to being whatever it is that he is! and to turn quickly to WALT B. who (I hope) will entertain and inform in his usual style and accept the appreciation that I am sure all of us share for his efforts to provide us this precious channel of communication!!

Dennis,

Congratulations on your boat, being 100,000th and welcome to the family! Looks like you're gonna get a hat and a burgee! I'm sure someone will post the appropriate burgee protocol.

Walt, I'm a man of my word. How do we proceed?

Thanks for the kind words. We honor you as a representative of all of us who come together here, and take pride in this milestone for our group.

(I'm glad you got it and not the guy who was pounding the reload button for three minutes before you logged in. Saved me from having to whistle unsportsmanlike conduct.) ;-)

Twenty years ago, when the personal computer industry was getting started (and I along with it), people began worrying about computers appearing in homes. Would they lure people, particularly kids, away from healthy interactions with other people and into a dark room to sit in front of a screen? This fear persisted for a number of years.

Who would have thought back then that personal computers, with the popularization of the Internet, would become a new dimension in bringing people together? But here we are - in a little community which is one of tens of thousands. Wow. (And the computers have just given kids something else to talk about with each other - not to mention awesome hand-eye coordination.)

Steve, thanks for offering to provide the fixings for a further celebration. (I think someone offered to share?) I guess you proceed by asking Dennis for his snail mail address, then order a burgee and hat from the link at the top of the message board page and tell Micaela to send it to Dennis. Or order the burgee and let the other volunteer order the hat.

Dennis, it's your call - but if it were me, I'd be prouder of the Cape Dory 22. Congratulations on both - enjoy the boat.

Congratulations to Dennis as a representative of all of us. And that's the most important thing, it's us. We wouldn't have reached 100,000 if this site didn't have so much value to all of us. I was explaining to my wife that I have a whole new group of friends that I look forward to visiting with just about every day. (Sometimes I think if Walt tracked total visits I might be in the lead!) I've learned so much from all of you (I hope I've helped a little as well) and I've enjoyed your sense of humor and your concern for helping others. So again, Congratulations Dennis, and congratulations to US!

John,

I see that Dennis posted his snail mail address. You probably saw Walt's post. I'll take care of the hat, do you wanna do the burgee?

By the way, I haven't taken a second to say thanks! You know, it's too bad we can't all get together some how. I have the feeling that we would all get along famously.

Dennis,

A couple of weeks ago someone posted the thought that it would be cool to recognize the 100,000th visitor. I volunteered to donate a CCDOA hat and burgee, and my friend John volunteered to chip in. You see, individuals who participate in this forum are respectful, compassionate, tolerant, supportive and very much not egotistic.

My first visit to this site was about two years ago, and I believe there were a total of only about 35,000 hits or so to this site. Since then, I have had the pleasure of getting to know many, learning a great deal, and sharing some of my observations during this period. But no matter what, this forum has provided a tremendous level of camaraderie. And to that we say, welcome to the club! Enjoy your boat and keep us posted!
