The previous message about Yanmar parts prompted me to post this message about an idea that's been nagging at me. I have a 1980 CD27 with a 1987 Yanmar 2GM20F. Great engine for this boat, by the way.
The engine is not made with an oil pan drain, however. I have looked at all the specs and the service manual, and I've talked to Bob at LI Yacht Service, and apparently a pan with a drain is not available. My engine is mounted at just the right angle that, if there were a drain to which I could add a petcock of some type, there would be ample access to attach a temporary hose for draining the oil. This improvement would obviate the need for pumping out (never all of) the old oil out of the dipstick hole. (With this engine, the only way to reach the dipstick hole is after removing the galley drawer and reaching though the opening.)
Has anyone ever tried retrofitting such a valve on a diesel made without one? Any recommendations pro/con would be most welcome.
