Given that this BB is non-profit, and given that this BB has given me significant support and information, I'd be happy to cough up the dough to pay for the hat and burgee. (and I'm not even a member!)

Walt, if you want to/can track to identify who the 100,000th is, let me know.

Fortunately for privacy, there is no way for a Web page to identify the person looking at it. I can, however, identify their Internet Service Provider, and I have temporarily put in a log for the purpose of confirming the 100,000th visitor, should they post a message claiming the honor.

(I will also know if they got there by spinning the counter, in which case there won't be much honor, and I will figure out who the >> real << 100,000th visitor was.) :-)

Thanks for volunteering to throw a suitable party. Additional suggestions for the celebration will be welcomed. For our part, perhaps the Californa Cape Dory Owners could issue a press release to boating publications about this milestone - it would be fun, and could alert more Cape Dory owners to the Board.

If anyone wants to email me the mailing address of your local boating publication(s), I'd be happy to add it to our list. (I've got Soundings and the national magazines.)

Walt,

As you will note, you have no way of knowing where this message originated, who sent it, what server they were using, etc., etc.,

The vast majority of us are using proxy servers so that we may protect ourselves -- not from you in particular, just from the world in general.

Dear t1dwbhcu (may I call you t1?):

Actually about 20% of the logins to this board appear to be using proxy servers. I'm not clear what information you are protecting by doing so, other than the identity of your ISP. But privacy is a GOOD thing, so please accept my approval for protecting whatever.

Still, you're correct that I can't tell who sent your message or from what server. I can, however, tell that you were visitor #96854, correlate your arrival on the page with the message you posted, and verify that you did not artificially inflate the counter while you were here. I don't think this invades the privacy of any visitors, Still, I am real sensitive to privacy. That's why I posted the fact that I am temporarily logging some info, so that anyone who disagrees can say so - anonymously if they like.

If visitor 100,000 wants to post a message, we'll know who he/she is (or claims to be) and that's all I want to accomplish.
