Post by Jim Shivers »

Just purchased a 81 CD 25. Which number in the ID plate indicated the Hull number? The ID number is 10 1 80 C. Thanks

Jim,

My Cape Dory 32 has a small brass or bronze (don't know which) plaque on the teak overhead just as you enter the companion way. It is oval in shape and carries the Cape Dory logo, a half hull, and below the logo is the hull number. Maybe your boat has a similar plaque? Otherwise use Ron's method. Hope you're looking at the correct ID plate.

I have a 1977 CD25. The hull number is found in two places. First, the hull number is listed in an oval plaque with half hull screwed into the teak rail over the front opening of the engine well. (i.e. "Cape Dory Yachts CD25 Hull 531") The hull number is also incorporated into the hull ID number stamped into the upper starboard side of the transom. The number which you cited (10 1 80 C) looks like the number which on my boat is stamped into the fiberglass inside the saillocker, starboard side, on the platform for the second battery. I am guessing this number is the build date Oct. 1, 1980 (although I have no reason to believe this other than the close correlation with the model year).

Best of luck with the new boat.

Your hull Number is #101 and is a 1980 model. For instance, my number ends in 00285C which is hull #2, 1985 model. The "rough" spaces sometimes occur when they place the numbering into the hull. If your boat is equipped with the plaque, it will also confirm the hull # for you, it just plainly says Hull #....

Ron, Thanks for the reply. However, being the observant person I am, I did find the bronze oval plate in front of the engine well. (As my dear old mother used to say, "If it had been a snake it would have bitten you". Love the boat. Bought it with a friend and we have it on an inland lake, not real large, but,,,,,,. All this talk on here bout open sea saling and the Great Lakes makes one kinda jealous. Again, thanks for the reply.
