Calling New England CD Owners

Post by Chris Reinke »

Recently I have seen lots of interest for a get together in the New England area. I know I am going to regret this but ..... I have initiated discussions with a marina in Onset, Massachusetts for a get together next summer. I would like to get a preliminary boat and body count from any interested CD owners.

Onset is located at the top of Buzzards Bay and the local yacht club operates approximately 30 transient morings. The waters of Buzzards Bay offer ideal CD sailing conditions while Onset Bay provides a protected anchorage.

Please respond to my e-mail address with:
- Number of sailors
- Preferred dates or known conflicting events
- Ideas for activities or events
- Home port, so I can share information on others from your area

I shall begin gathering e-mail addresses for periodic updates and correspondence.

Chris,
We are very interested! Your location is great, central enough. The proposals for Maine were just to far away.
- 2 sailors.
- Dates are open, no known conflicts.
- Ideas:
1. Invite a representative of CDSOA to speak.
2. Have 'type' meetings, i.e., CD25, CD30, CD33, etc.
- Home port: New London, CT.
- Boat type; 1977 CD30K 'Heather Ann' No. 57.
It will take about 2 to 3 days to sail from New London. If desired, I will flotilla up with anyone coming from the South/West.

Put me 100% in the very interested column and at least 50% in the likely to actually show up column.

It would be my wife and I.
Mid-summer would be the best.
I'd suggest no land activities other than hot dogs and beer; for sailing, a casual around the buoys race/cruise would be fun.
We sail from Marina Bay on Boston Harbor.

Btw, I'd like to see gatherings up and down the coast, scattered throughout the summer. That would let anyone make at least one overnight trip to a CD rally.

Sounds like a great time. My wife and I would certainly be interested in such a gathering. I don't know if we will be able to attend but the interest is certainly there. If we go out the mouth of the Piscataqua and turn right we will be there.

Thanks for your work on this project.

Chris,
The Captain and 1st. Mate of Hanalei would be honored to meet with all of you at Onset, MA next summer. As others have already stated, mid-summer would be best for us. Hanalei hails from Noank, CT, so we are a day or two from your port. The Captain feels that a Cruising race around the bouys off Onset for each type would be a nice event (no real stress, maybe cruising spinakers allowed for light airs). I agree with the others, limit the on-shore activities. Cook-outs, grog drinking and vessel boarding with associated exchange of ideas would be plenty. The Navigator of Hanalei also suggests that this be held about mid July as the winds may be more favorable than in August.

Please let us know what develops.....

Five (5) responses in one day,
Hit the nail on the head I'd say,
The wife and I will take Whisper,
Dutch Harbor to Onset, meeting others with her,
For a rally anytime on Buzzards Bay!

But seriously, I think it is a great idea and (I know I will regret this...) if you need any help........... Dutch Harbor is in Jamestown, RI, so about a long days sail. Looking forward to whatever you may plan.

Chris

The two of us would be interested in attending if you can make arrangements for a weekend in June or July. Cotuit is our home port and we live on the cape. If we can help with the arrangements let us know.

It will only take me 5 or 6 months to get there. That would be fun too. Unfortunately she (Rhapsody)is not up to the trip at this time.

Any lodging available in the area? We have never been to the northeast and would enjoy the trip (wife and possibly 16yr old son).

Why Sure! Love to sail down from Falmouth in Casco Bay - would enjoy cruising along with some other boats if I can hook up along the way.

Great idea!

We would be coming from Marina Bay on Boston Harbor and could stop in Scituate or Plymouth on the way down and/or back.

We'll meet you as you go past Boston!

Alternatively, as summer plans evolve, a meeting further north, Gloucester or so, would be fun, too.
