Happy Birthday to Us - Board is Two Years Old!

Well, here's the Cape Dory Information Exchange - after two years of operation, over 80,000 visits, over 4,700 messages posted, lots of people sharing Cape Dory info, and an unknown number of boats bought and sold through this Web site. (I know of at least two San Francisco Bay boats that are out here as a result of people seeing posts or info here.)

I remember putting up the message board software on October 18, 1996. I had received a couple of inquiries by email, and posted them on the board to "prime the pump". It was a real thrill to see the first few replies and new posts appear - watching a new on-line community coming to life.

So here we are, two years later. Anyone got any message board success stories to share? Boats bought or sold, projects advanced, people met, etc.?

My congratulations to the board and to the founder of the board with very special thanks to the founder for the work, effort and talent that went into making this so nice and usable.

Yes, Peri was sold through the board. She was sold before the ad could ever appear in Latitude. Thank you, Walt!!

When I bought my CD28, I put an ad on this board to find a new home for my CD25. That was the only ad I placed. No magazines, no yacht club, no on line services, no newspapers. I wanted to be sure Dauntless went to an owner that would take care of her. I figured anyone who wasn't visiting this site wasn't really serious. Sold her to a great new owner in a months time.
I've also found out a lot of information, and supplied a little bit in return. And I have a whole new group of friends all over the country.
A great big thank you to Walt for making all of this possible.
Jerry

Happy Birthday, indeed! and thanks, Walt, for maintaining this invaluable information exchange medium.

Plain and simple, we would not have found (because we would not have looked for) Remedy, our CD27 (hull #37), without this site. We started looking just as the site was born; by January, 1997, when we knew to look for a Cape Dory, there was enough to convince us that we had found the right boat. Knowing that there was a support network for advice and a great potential source for resale were big factors, as were the consistent reports on the boats' sailing characteristics (we bought her without a sea trial).

I have found countless bits of time-saving advice on this page, and offered what I can in return - mostly, bootlegs of my owner's manual and Yanmar manuals.

Thanks, Walt - the beers are on me next time you are in Rhode Island.

I like it when I'm sailing around the Boston Harbor Islands, other CD owners see LIQUIDITY and call me by name! I've also seem CD's around the harbor and waved, and later checked the directory based on the boat name. It's a great start to a northeast based CD club!

Congratulations Walt on creating one of the best boating sites on the web. I am a better sailor and have a better maintained boat as a result of this site. I enjoy the company of the people I have met, both virtually and physically, on this site. It's especially nice in the winter when there's ice in the lakes, Sostenuto is tarped, and I'm looking for another way to relax.

Thanks Walt
