Great Sail Today! 10/20..
I sure hope my fellow Long Island Sound sailors got out for a sail this Sunday. Picture perfect and just the opposite of that lousy August sailing on the Sound. Julie and I got out early this morning when the wind was blowing 18-20K. We sailed with a single reefed mainsail and a 110% genny up. We zipped from out mooring in Oyster Bay Harbor out into the Sound and across to Stamford Connecticut in no time. The water was somewhat choppy but SQN just loved the conditions! She was so well balanced that I could take my hand off the tiller for long periods of time and she just held her course. On the trip back from Stamford to OB, we had a following sea and we broad reached often hitting 7.5 knots on the GPS (over the ground)! 7.5 knots in a CD27 is a real kick! We picked up our mooring early, about 2PM, as Oyster Bay was having is annual Oyster Festival. The entire town closed its streets to traffic and it became one very large street fair. Arts, crafts, galleries and, of course, lots and lots of food. We ran into some friends and we gorged ourselves on beer and, what else, Oysters! It is Oyster Bay after all. A perfect day! I still have a few weeks left before SQN goes on the hard. The spring and fall are really the best sailing seasons on the Sound!

So was yesterday!
If you didn't get out Saturday, you missed another really good sailing day on the Sound. Small craft advisory, 20 to 25 knots with gusts to 30. The new (to me) Pearson really enjoyed it, as would the Ty, although it would have been alot wetter in the Ty. It was overcast (compared to today's sun), but fun.

You can read about sailing in LIS and on Oyster Bay in the Nov/Dec issue of Latitudes and Attitudes. Makes a sailor want to head south for the extra few weeks of sailing season.

Warren:
Sunday was a sparkler. From the Connecticut side I agree a perfect day for sailing a CD (or any Alberg design) just wish that the weather had beat my haulout date!
At least another six weeks of this season it would appear.

Warren,
What a day!!! I figured you were out there, I headed out of Norwalk Harbor around Noon, passed Greens Ledge and headed across!!!! The only CD that I saw was a beautifull little Typhoon sailing out of the harbor. As I was sailing out, a beautifull LARGE sailboat was comming, her skipper yelled out to me, saying what a beautifull CD
That was a great start to a perfect day. Sailed on a braod reach, also saw 7.5 knots over the land !!!!! Where was Dick ? I was hopping to run into Adamarie!!!

The 18th was a Friday and a constantly annoying problem that interferes with my sailing schedule..work..had me cooped up all day. Frankly, you wouldn't have seen me anyway as Oyster Bay is probably 60 miles to the west of where your ferry was.

I spent the week in Freeport on business. After the Nor'easter, the Nautical Mile was under water. With all the crazy drivers on the parkways, you need to keep Sine Qua Non in the water so that you can relax.

Ahoy Captains,
I was out there, too! Had I known you all were asailing also, we might have had a mini rendezvous! I was somewhat further west...between Greenwich and Port Chester.
Hey, SC, I didn't know that Macht Nichts was a land rover!

Indeed Warren, Sunday was a sparkler and it was a magnificent day to take our last sail of the year before going on the hard this week:(Warren Kaplan wrote: I sure hope my fellow Long Island Sound sailors got out for a sail this Sunday.
