When I move the transmission control on our 25D forward or into reverse the throttle lever goes with it. It has been repaired? once before but is now back to both moving together. The boat is 18 years old and the controls are possibly worn out. Can these controls be replaced or what is the fix? The transmission cable broke this summer and was replaced.
Thanks for any help

Re: 25D Engine controls
Joe,
I had a similar problem. The movement is caused by corrosion or dirt in the space between the two shafts, the throttle shaft is inside the shifter shaft.
First, take a photo, or make a drawing of the assembly prior to starting the repair.
If I remember correctly the assembly can be removed quite easily, starting in the cockpit remove the rotating cone shaped pieces, one each for the throttle and the shifter. There are set screws on the underside of each piece. Remove the set screws and the cone pieces will slide off the splined shaft. Then inside the stbd locker you disconnect the control cables, remove a couple of mounting bolts and voila you have the sucker in your hand. I seem to recall a washer and screw arrangement needed to be removed, then the two shafts can be separated, cleaned and lubricated.
Reinstall carefully and you are all set.
Kind of exciting when you are coming into a dock isn't it?
If this doesn't make sense let me know, LOKI our 25D is on the hard in the side yard and I can easily check any questions.
Sincerely,
Lee
