Corroded Lower Oil Pipe 1GM in CD25D

Post by Jim Jamieson »

A question for the mechanical experts. I have a Yanmar 1GM. The banjo nut and adjacent tubing on the lower oil pipe from the block to the back of the tappets is badly corroded from seepage from the zinc gasket but not leaking oil. I have a replacement pipe. How do I get access to the connector at the back of the tappets? Do I need to remove the air silencer and the associated holder and if so, what are the screws or bolts holding it in place? Is this something I can do myself or should Yanmar mechanic do the job? Or should I wait till it leaks. I'm concerned about a catastrophic rupture.
thanks for any advice.

Jim,
A few years ago, I had the oil line that you describe fail on my CD25D. I had a mechanic do the work, but if you are good with tools, and are patient, I believe that you can perform this job yourself. If my memory is correct, he removed the air cleaner to get to the rear connection on the top of the engine. I do remember that there are bronze "crush" washers or seals that go under the connecters. These are "use once only" parts. If you have these with your new oil line, use them! If you do not have them, get them before you start this job. If your line is not leaking, this may be a good "winter project." Good luck.
