I've been trying to find some patterns or a place to purchase the stern teak cap (which goes over the deck portion of the stern and connects to a piece that wraps at the top of the stern) for LaVida my CD33. Its a VERY complex piece of wood and beyond my capability to build.
I've sent a number of emails to Mystic Marine in hopes they will have the pattern and haven't gotten any response.
Are they still in business? New address? PHone number?
Anyone know any other sources for this pattern?
thanks in advance,
mike

stern teak caps and Mystic Marine

Re: stern teak caps and Mystic Marine
Mike I don't know if Mystic is in business or anything else about them but perhaps Catherine will see your post and contribute some info on them for you, she seems to stay on top of the CD suppliers.
Do you have the old stern cap? If so why don't you just make yourself some patterns from it. Just look carefully at how it was made and you should be able to make a replacement without any great difficulty as long as you have some decent tools. A good pattern, a steady hand and good tools is what it takes to do a decent job. The final fitting of the teak piece is a trial and error technique and requires patience to acheive a perfect fit. If you have the tools and patience you should be able to do the job yourself. Get a hold of a book on boat carpentry and do a little homework if it makes you feel more confident. I've done quite a bit of this kind of work in factories and in my own business and I can tell you I didn't think I could do it the first time I ever tried either. Give it a try, just go slow, be patient and learn as you go, one step at a time.
