My CD25 is currently equipped with a Honda 4 stroke 5HP outboard.I'd like to upgrade, mainly to get electric start and a generator, but also for a little more power. The room under the locker looks REAL tight though....any ideas on what will fit? Thanks!!!!

For what it's worth, you can get a charger kit for the Honda 4 stroke 5 HP engines (the new ones anyway, I have it. it cost an extra $75 when I go the engine.)

Re: Cd 25....what size outboard???
I installed a 9.9 HP Yamaha in my CD25 #607 and am very pleased with the performance. With the big engine, hull speed is attained at low rpms cutting down noise and vibration. It was a close fit however, and the mounting bracket had to be adjusted with spacers to get it in. I also plumbed the upper exhaust vent to below water, and the engine will run at full bore with the hatch closed.A 20 inch lower unit works fine, and never cavatites even in the worst of seas.Gene wrote: My CD25 is currently equipped with a Honda 4 stroke 5HP outboard.I'd like to upgrade, mainly to get electric start and a generator, but also for a little more power. The room under the locker looks REAL tight though....any ideas on what will fit? Ron, do you have any pictures of your exhaust hose from your engine. I too have a yamaha, about a 1984 or so and would like to be able to close the hatch on it. Did you actually terminate the pipe or hose below the water line? Any details appreciated. Thanks, JimRon Brassord wrote:I installed a 9.9 HP Yamaha in my CD25 #607 and am very pleased with the performance. I will trade my 2000 Nissan 8hp 2 cycle with 2 3 gallon tanks for your Honda 5hp 4 cycle depending on the year and condition of your engine.

If you check the archives, you will see Dana A described the fix for the exhaust problem in a well. Believe me, it works great. It's an easy fix. Drill out the upper exhaust hole if necessary to accept a 3/8ths copper tube nipple of about two inches. Marinetex this in place, and attach a length of flexible plastc hose that extends to below the cavitation plate in the water. Tie this with a couple of electrical ties and you're ready to go.It gets all the exhaust out of the well except when the boat is standing still. I even plug up the front opening to furthur reduce noise.Second Wind wrote:Ron, do you have any pictures of your exhaust hose from your engine. Good sailing Ron B lighthouse PT, FL,
I also removed the steering/throttle handle and atached a short piece of PVC pipe for a throttle control and attached a short piece of aluminum flat stock to the shift lever, and it's like having an inboard engine. It also makes it easy to lift the motor in and out, although the Tempo lower unit paint is working well, and I leave the engine in place.
I've had it both ways, and I think I prefer this set up to an expensive low power inboard diesel.
