Hello,
Can anyone give me some idea of life left on a Chrysler 318 CId , 275 hp marine engine in the 28 that may have 1500 hours on it??
The boat we are looking at is in very good shape and appears to be well taken care of.
Also, ballpark estimate of a diesel replacement when the time comes??...suggestions on Volvo, Cummins, Yanmar, etc?
Thanks in advance for your help

Re: CD 28 with gas engine
The engine experts may have a very different view than I, but one measure I have used is to convert the hours to miles at 60 MPH. In this case, you are looking at the equivalent of 90,000 miles. Were they highway miles or in town miles? Was it well cared for or mistreated?
Just some thoughts.

Re: CD 28 with gas engine
A good professional opinon can be had at www.Yachtsurvey.com .It's a good look at gas -vs-diesel It will give you some factual differencs and clear away a lot of the hype.My feeling as a 28FB owner would be to consider a diesel only if I wanted longer range cruising than the 150 miles my present gas engine safely gives.Perhaps have a good mechanic check out the engine.Compression check, look at the plugs, and listen to the engine on a full load run.Depending on how it has been run and winterized often has more effect on engine life than its hours. If you are in doubt as to the condition of the engine a replacement Chrysler 360 might make more moneywise sense.Good luck it's a nice boat.p stark wrote: Hello,
