As regards my most wonderful genny sheets, there is a problem: they came in two parts and are currently fixed to the tack with bowlines. The bowlines hang up on the jib stay/ furler and I am looking for recommendations as to how to fix it. Most on this board have recommended a single sheet with a simple turk's head knot at the clew. That sounds plausible, but can I long splice the two halves together or must I start all over with new line? There are other alternatives, but the turk's head seems most desirable.
Comments please.

Single Sheet from Two??

Re: Single Sheet from Two??
Ken,
Had the same problem and since I keep my sheets attached all the time,
I bought a kit that has the tools to eyesplice hightech rope.
I simply eyespliced the sheets on. I cut them off when its necessary to swap ends. The splice is low profile, low tech and does not flog or catch on anything.
Long gone are the days of simple three strand eyesplicing!
Learning the splicing chore has paid off by the ability to splice other hightech lines on LaVida.

Re: Single Sheet from Two??
Mike,
Thanks for your comments. It used to be fun to splice three-strand, maybe I ought to take on twelve? I just got back from the boat last night and I happened to bring the genny with me. The sheets probably are New England's Regatta as I even found the red tracer which I had never noticed before.
Now to find instructions for splicing twelve-strand.

Re: Single Sheet from Two??
Ken, one solution might be to make sure your knots are facing the right way so that they do not hang up. The big part of the knot should be to the outside as the sheet passes the shroud. I used regatta braid part of one season but had problems with it snagging. It does feel great and coils beautifully though.

Re: Single Sheet from Two??
An alternative to the bowline is the buntline hitch. The hitch is smaller and snugs up against the eyelet. It is sometimes tough to untie but if you leave the sheets on, no problem.Ken Coit wrote: As regards my most wonderful genny sheets, there is a problem: they came in two parts and are currently fixed to the tack with bowlines. Re: Single Sheet from Two??
Ken,
I spliced my sheets on, but there is a hitch. The splice gets ugly where it rubs on the stay. You would do well to put chafing protection over the splice. It still hangs up, but less often.
