CD-25 trailering question

Post by Paul Mlodzianoski »

I've owned my 25 now for 2 years and am thinking of trailering it south this winter. I'll be towing it with my Chevy Tahoe. GM recommends for towing loads over 5000lbs. that a weight distribution hitch and anti-sway bar be installed.I would guess that the boat and trailer weigh about 5500lbs. Well,I brought the truck and trailer to my local garage for installation but because of the design of the trailer (the tongue is to long) the parts wouldn't fit. My mechanic thinks that my dual axle trailer will tow just fine as it is. Any suggestions and recommendations from the board would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

P.S.--My reservations are made and I'm looking forward to the Annual Meeting next month in Oriental N.C.

Hi Paul,

I towed my CD25 with my Dodge Dakota 3 times. Once from Ft. Lauderdale to New Bern,NC. Once From New Bern to Presque Isle,ME. and 2 weeks ago from Presque Isle to Portland where I sold it. My Dakota is a 1998, 6 cyl, 5 speed manual. It originally had no towing package. All I did was add a hitch and lighting harness. It towed just fine without any other modifications.

P.S. I too have my plane ticket for the meeting in Oriental. See you there, Scott

Hi Paul
We have trailered our CD25 for several years. Many thousands of miles. I ran it over a certified truck scale a few years back. The boat and trailer and gear came in at 7500#. We have towed with several trucks. A Ford 150 with the mid size V8 worked fine. We also have a camper. I tried many years ago to tow it with a Ford Explorer. This worked fine until I got into an emergency situation in the mountains of NC. Scared myself badly. For what it worth I now want everything going for me I can get. When thing go wrong... If you don't need it fine but if you do you will be glad you didn't skimp.
IMHO
Jim
