Do any 33 owners have some suggestions for a good quality dodger for a 33 sloop? The limiting factor here is the traveller located on the bridgedeck. It reduces the amount the dodger may come aft of the cabin as the main sheet would hit it. Island Nautical quoted $1200 yet the dimensions they gave me did not seem like they know how close that traveller is. I heard the Sailrite kits are not that good looking.
Thanks in advance.

Dodger for CD 33

Re: Dodger for CD 33
We have Hull #90 and have had a dodger for the nine years we have owned the boat. We bought the boat in the Cheasapeake and the previous owner had a dodger and bimini fitted with an insert that zippers between the two. We have the material replace a few years ago and the firm used the existing frames. The dodger comes within about 6 inches of the main sheet--the bimini does the same and the insert is about 12 wide.Paul D. wrote: Do any 33 owners have some suggestions for a good quality dodger for a 33 sloop? There are three aluminum frames for the dodger and the whole thing is fixed to the cabin roof and the comings. It is tensioned by small lines to eyestraps on the comings. The bimini has three frames and is tensioned by fouradjustable straps--two on the coach roof and two of the aft deck near the end of the comings.
If you are interested I may be able to send you a jpg file showing the arrangement.

Paul:
Several years ago we had Cover Loft in Eastport Md make our dodger. Their work still draws praise from fellow boaters.
Instead of the bimini poles we used a zippered awning that when in place zips to the rear of the dodger and then attaches to the back stay with some tehtering lines down to the life lines and pushpit. There is also a 2' section on the aft side of the awning that unzips if we want full stern views.
This method has worked extremely well for over 10,000nm in all kinds of weather.
However if you need to use the main, then it must come down. A quick unzipping from the dodger and the whole thing folds down like a convertible top into the pushpit area.
The guys at Cover Loft are great. Ask for Shawn the owner, he personally outfitted LaVida with the dodger, awning and lee cloths for a very reasonable price.
