I have discovered that I have 1 very bad motor mount and 1 that is slightly bad--same side. Both need to be replaced. This probably accounts for the vibration I am getting at low idle. I had planned to do all 4. I realize that engine will need to be re-aligned after this is done. Are replacing the 4 motor mounts and the alignment best left to a mechanic (Yanmar) or is this a reasonable D.I.Y. project? I have been told by local repair shop that this is a full-day project for the marine (Yanmar) mechanic that translates to about $400 for labor, parts (4x$75) additional. The shop spokesman also said that they could accurately do the alignment with the boat still on the hard. Is this correct or will I need to check alignment next spring when boat is launched? Does price, etc. for this sound reasonable? I have done alot of work already myself--cutlass bearing, fuel filters, oil etc.), however, I wasn't sure how much more difficult the motor mounts and alignment were compared to what I had already done. Please advise. Thanks.

Motor Mounts for Yanmar 1 GM on CD22D--difficult?

Re: Motor Mounts for Yanmar 1 GM on CD22D--difficult?
Hello Jim
Well this is truly not that bad of a job. I did the same on my 25D (1GM) when I first took possession of her. Teh price for the mounts sounds correct, but make sure that they are the correct ones. I ordered my from Torresen Marine and got some strange looking animals and it took a bit of dective work on the part of their parts staff to find the correct mounts (I am in Oklahoma and parts are not that readily available)....
I did the entire process in the water and I cant see why you it cant be done on the hard. I used a short piece of 2x6 and a automobile scissors jack. Lifted the engine marked the current position of the old mounts, removed them and replaced with the new ones. It is a multiple person job, one in the port locker, one in the cabin and one in the cockpit (on a 25D).....Sure makes it easier. After replacing the mounts, I reattached the flange, used a feeler gauge to make the adjustment and then replaced the safety wire and all has been well for the past 5 years. If you can do a cutlass bearing, this is a piece of cake. I dont recall it taking all day (it did not), but then again a marina ape could certainly take that long....
