short time ago i seen what appeared like a hair line crack on the port side base of Compinche traveller (CD30)...and on my way to SAIL FOR AMERICA event that hairline became a larger one and i guess the stress will make it worst as time goes on...unable to trust the integrity of the rigging I had to abort and return home to Centerport..too bad I was looking to meet the rest of the sailing world in NY HARBOR that weekend...Things are not working for me this year...
Now does anyone has any experience with this problem...this bases are cast aluminum or some alloy like such..possible removal and welding...replacement available...
I appreciate any imput in this area...
cheers/mike

Hi Mike,
For new original replacement parts try Rig-Rite Inc:
63 Centerville Rd, Warwick, RI 02886, 401-739-1140,
www.RigRite.com, http://www.rigrite.com/,
The owner is Kim (who does not like to 'chat' a lot - get right to the point.) He bought out "Spartan Spars" when Cape Dory went under. Either has it on the shelf or can have it made, but you'll pay ($$$).
I have been unable to fine a 'boat salvage yard' or 'junk yard' for old used parts. However three Marine Consignment shops offer CDSOA members a discount:
- Boat Stuff: 860-536-3422, www.mysticboatstuff.com, Dick & Nancy King, Mystic, CT,
- Marine Consignment of Wickford (RI); 401-295-9709,
Web: www.marineconsignment.com, Sam Angelini
- Newport (RI) Nautical Supply; http://www.newportnautical.com/, 888-847-9241, Bud Heaton.
Good Hunting!! (And let us know if you find a boat 'junk yard'!!)

Re: cracked mounting base main sheet traveller bridge
I've got a pair you can have (I moved my traveler into the cockpit, where I am very happy with it). They are off my CD30, hull 77, built 1978 - I don't know their life expectancy, but they seem fine. If you want them, make me an offer (enough to cover the hassel and cost of shipping, UPS Ground, or send me a shipping bill, or COD?).mike mascaros wrote: short time ago i seen what appeared like a hair line crack on the port side base of Compinche traveller (CD30)...and on my way to SAIL FOR AMERICA event that hairline became a larger one and i guess the stress will make it worst as time goes on...unable to trust the integrity of the rigging I had to abort and return home to Centerport..too bad I was looking to meet the rest of the sailing world in NY HARBOR that weekend...Things are not working for me this year...

By the way, you could have it welded, but for post weld strength I haven't a clue.
