Let me know if you make it back alive. I might want to try this some day.

Have you gone over the classic literature on the timing for that trip? I have done the Bermuda run, but it was at the end of June. Usually roughly May through mid July is the recommended time, as I remember. I would worry that you're still in the tail end of the hurricane season.

I suspect the boat, probably with some minor modifications (gasketing seat hatches, if not already done, etc), could do the trip and get you there and back. The guy who did the insurance survey on my CD30 was a circumnavigator, the one recommendation he made was to add running back stays for additional bracing to the mast, you might wish to explore the need for that for your boat.

I guess the best thing I could recommend is that you find a surveyor with good offshore experience and get his advice on the boat and preparations.

Wouldn't a CD330 be more comfortable, John? What's your schedule?

Living in St. Louis, I'm envious of you sailors with ocean access. Good luck on your trip. The previous owner of my CD25 sailed a CD22 across the Atlantic several years ago. His biggest problem was losing his wind in the trough of the waves. Let us know how it went.
