Knotmeter

Not sure what it is called, I do know it is for the knotmeter. I am refering to the piece I pulled out from the bildge with the small wheel. I could see why the knotmeter is not working. All kinds of bugs groth etc caked on and around the wheel. Is there any cleaner I should use or do I just brush it off. Also should I grease the wheel ?

The wheel should be removeable by pushing out the pin. I pull my sending unit out between sails and insert the plug (which has the end bottom painted). My previous unit had been bottom painted, which made it useless.

I wouldn't try grease on the shaft....it'd get stiff in the water, especially in cold water. You can test these things with an oscilloscope; they make an AC sine wave pattern.
