My 1975 Typhoon had all bronze on her. I think it may have been optional as some had aluminium around then too. Spartan, findable on this website, makes all the bronze stuff needed for a Typhoon I believe. However, when I upgraded the portlights from the cheap plastic ones that were almost mush on my boat, I went with ABI bronze 4" fixed lights. They were an excellent improvement. ABI is found in most sailing mags.

Best of luck,

Dear Fred,

Over the years Cape Dory changed over the Typhoon hardware from Bronze to other materials such as aluminum and plastic. As far as I know only the very early boats has Bronze Builder's Plates. As we have had the time we have been gradualy reporducing the Cape Dory hardware. We now make the Builder's Plates for just about all the cape dory models. We also make the outboard motor bracket for the Typhoon as well as replacement ports in Bronze. Many Cape Dory owners, as they restore their boats, are replacing the stainless, aluminum, or plastic fittings with our Bronze items.

Be very careful of the fittings from the volume manufacturers that are advertised as "bronze". Just about all the larger manufacturers now have their products made in S.E. Asia and they are in brass not bronze. Most novices don't know the difference and both metals will develope the green patina in time. However, brass is a metal that is very high in zinc content which, over time, will come out of the metal as zinc oxide and both weaken the metal and attack any wood near by.

If you have any questions I can be reached at 401-625-5224.
