I just returned to CD30 Dayspring after 3 months absence and for the first time had left a competent hand in charge of running the engine
each week. And for the first time in 5 years I came back to engine problems.
The Volvo 2002 doesnt turn but the relay is clicking when the key start contacts are removed and shorted. The key contacts have either burned or become intermittent which may be an indication of what has happened further downstream.
I am replacing the 30A relay today and wonder if anyone knows from experience which is likely to be the next culprit if that doesnt work.
Batteries and cables are all in good condition.

Re: Starting problems
Murray,
I had this problem once. Check your grounds. Make sure they are all tight and clean.

Re: Starting problems
After a lot of just starting and then turning off the engine (which is what it sounds like happened according to your post, you may have a discharged battey. Put it on a charger and see how long it takes it to charge. Short time to recharge = good battery, then check terminals.Steve Alarcon wrote: Murray,

Long time to charge = you just solved your problem. It worth checking
out before you call in the high-priced marina mechanic.
Hope this helps.

Bad Ground Connection to Engine Will Do It Every Time
Just like Steve said.
If engine has been acting this way for awhile, then your able helper may have overheated the contacts on your keyswitch trying to get something to happen, or they may just be old and tired like some of us.
