Just bought a CD33 and am in the process of checking out all the systems and getting all the services done, etc. The Universal engine/transmission manual says to use Type A automatic transmission fluid but I can't find any in the stores. Do they still make Type A? If not, what is a suitable substitute?

Type A Transmission Fluid?

Re: Type A Transmission Fluid?
Use caution ! If you have a Hurth , you need type A only, but not the ford brand, Textron makes a suitable product. The other brand[s] will not stand up to the heat and turn black, The textron stays red indefinately. Check with a transmission[marine] shop. Yuo can burn up a unit in short order with the wrong stuff Good luckRyan T wrote: Just bought a CD33 and am in the process of checking out all the systems and getting all the services done, etc. The Universal engine/transmission manual says to use Type A automatic transmission fluid but I can't find any in the stores. Re: Type A Transmission Fluid?
I have a Hurth and have used 'Dextron II' in it for 13 years. It stays red and clear. 13 years ago I somehow figured this was the correct stuff for the transmission which is handy as it is available everywhere. Remember to change it routinely just like your engine oil however.
