thru-hull lube

Post by Tom Kennedy »

I recently installed a Spartan thru-hull into our CD26. I used a teflon lube which was suggested by the marine supply counterman. I noticed the lube which was in the Spartan thru-hull was of thick peanut butter consistency where the teflon lube is alot more viscuous. Am I in for a rude awakening at launching next week. Any thoughts and observations would be appreciated. Thank you, Tom Kennedy

seacock lube - Morey's

Post by John R. »

The brief answer is yes, however the problem won't manifest immediately. The teflon lube will be short lived in a seacock especially if it is in salt water.

You need to use a very *tenacious* grease, salt water proof. For many, many years I've been using Moreys Super Red premium EP (extra pressure)grease. I originally began using this grease in our marine service business and it proved itself to have excellent longevity. I recommended the grease to all those on this board long ago to use as a replacement for the Spartan grease that so many folks were having a short service life from. If you check the archives on this board you will find the posting where I listed the part # and full description of the grease along with purchasing information.

Since that time others have repeated the information several times so you should have no problem locating it in the archives. If you can't find it just post another inquiry and I will repost all the pertinent data on the product.
