I have an older main left over from my last boat, a CD28. I was thinking of making a trysail to use on my CD330. I was originally going to make a deck sunshade with the sail to keep the boat cooler while at anchor during the hot summer months. However, I hesitate to use the scissors on the sail before finding out if others have done this. It seems almost sacriligious to cut up a good sail.
Has anyone made use of a sail in this manner? I'm curious to see how the project turned out.

Re: Makeshift trysail
If you are talking about making a storm trysail, forget it. It is not strong enough. If you want a trysail, sell the old main to one of the good folks here and use the proceeds towards a new, strong, trysail.Ed Haley wrote: I have an older main left over from my last boat, a CD28.
