Jim,
Suggest you check your engine alignment. If the engine/transmission are not in alignment with the shaft, the cutlass bearing will wear out and leak, the shaft can break or bend, you will have lots of vibration and generally expensive headaches. It might be a good idea to get some professional help with this, but you CAN do it yourself. Consult one of the Nigel Calder books for info on alignment techniques. By the way, the boat MUST be in the water to do this so the the hull is in its normal shape. Good luck!

I recently purchased a CD-28 with MD7A installed. Surveyor noted corrosion on muffler and a reputable engine mechanic said the muffler is no longer made and would have to be fabricated to the tune of at least $600. Yikes! He said that when it started to go it would leak water and/or fumes. If anyone else has a better solution to the custom fabrication I'd sure like to hear it.

Re: CD30 cutter
I've got one of those stainless steel water lift cans that came with the original CD28 on the Volvo MD7A. Mine was leaking around the weld seams in the bottom, etc. I repaired this by grinding off all the paint and corrosion and down to brite good metal. Then I coated the seams with Gray Marine-Tex Epoxy and also wrapped the seams with Marine-Tex Epoxy saturated fiberglass boat cloth. I sanded it up and gave the can a good coat of rustolimum paint. That was four years ago, and not a drop since. Of course you've got to remove the water lift can from the boat.Craig Scott wrote: Jim,
