CD 28 Volvo water pump

Post by Jerry Hammernik »

They launched my new (to me) CD28 today! Neat! But the water pump is leaking. Is there a good source (fast and cheap) for Volvo parts anywhere? Thanks for the help.

Jerry, they do wear and do that. Is it possibly the cover gasket, or is it from the drain hole on the shaft that leads from the engine? I've had leaks on PERI's water pump from both locations. If it's the water pump gasket sometimes just tightening the cover screws can dry things up. If you need to put a new gasket in, there's one in the spare impellor you carry (right?) and you might as well change impellor and gasket at the same time anyhow.

My recommendation if it's from the shaft is to just get a new pump. There is a rebuild kit available for the waterpump, but it involves such things as pressing in a new bearing, etc. At the Volvo supply place here in Redwood City, CA a new pump was quoted to me last year as $159, as I remember. When I lived back east, I used to get all my parts from DePietro Kay in Connecticut. I don't have their address handy, it is in the Cape Dory manual that was shipped with my boat, and I'm sure you can find them through any of the telephone search engines like Switchboard or Four11. They were fast and responsive to me in the past.

Jerry,
Diepetro-Kay has moved to West Hartford, CT. Their number is 860-953-0173. They are the best around the North east for parts. They will ship anything anywhere. Unfortunatly, if it's says "Volvo" it ain't cheap. Although, I find Diepetro-Kay to be very fair and will give you a break when they can.
Good luck with it.

Jerry,
I know this will sound crazy but all the water-pump parts you need can
be found at NAPA auto parts. I just rebuilt my cooling system, and
the water-pump rebuild kit, impeller, and thermostat cost about $85
bucks with shipping TOTAL PRICE! What's more increadable is that all
the parts were Volvo parts in volvo bags packed in NAPA boxes. How
about them apples!
